About

In creating ‘PiECE’, Halsey has deconstructed traditional and classic 20th century iconic bag designs and reconstructed them, reinventing emblematic pieces that are contemporary and rooted firmly in the 21st Century.

The collection is instantly recognisable for its recurring features of ergonomic and organic lines, contrasted with geometric paneling and pleating detailing. Each piece has a dynamic expression which evokes spectacle with ultra modern styling that is confident, luxurious, sexy and reflects the professional and recreational lifestyles of today’s gentry.

I have titled my line ‘PiECE’ as it encapsulates and acknowledges the artistry, the coming together of craftsmanship, the production and creative process in bringing all these elements together to speak one’s piece as artists and designers ultimately aim to do’. Jason Halsey

DESIGN

The initial inspiration for the ‘PiECE’ premier collection was inspired by the work of French architect Manuelle Gautrand, in particular two pieces of work, her design for the conversion of the Gaîté-Lyrique theatre in Paris into a contemporary music centre, which takes the traditional and embellishes it with the ultra modern, also her design of the Citroën showroom on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Both these projects outline Halsey’s interest on the effect that one design or creative medium has over another.’

The collection fuses together the feminine aesthetics of sleek aerodynamic lines, contrasted with bold and masculine contemporary geometric paneling, along with the trims and detail the pieces evoke the silhouettes of classic sports cars of motor racing during the 20’s and 30’s.

COLOUR

The colour pallet has also been inspired by the golden age of motor racing, colours such as British Racing Green, which was first used in the 1920s by Bentley and went on to become a popular paint choice for British motor racing and luxury cars. The colour is used as an important statement, for ‘PiECE’ as a new British Luxury Brand.

Following this theme of high-speed glamour, the palette also includes Racing Yellow, Pewter inspired by Aston Martin, a Red inspired by Ferrari, but darker and richer with a winter hue. A dark rich Tan and an Ivory White that signify the quality of fine leather car interiors of yesteryear. Black acts both as a statement and an accent colour throughout the collection.
